Introduction to Water Pump Selection
Choosing the right water pump is critical for any project in Egypt—whether it's agricultural irrigation, residential water supply, industrial applications, or wastewater management. At Modern Machinery, we offer the full range of Caprari pumps, a world leader in pump technology with over 70 years of experience.
This guide helps you understand the different types of pumps and how to select the right one for your specific needs.
Types of Water Pumps
Borehole (Submersible) Pumps
Borehole pumps are designed for extracting water from deep wells. Caprari offers a wide range of submersible pumps including the EASYWELL series, Desert Energy, Endurance, MC4, and MAC series. These pumps are suitable for wells from 4" to 14" diameter and depths up to 500 meters.
-
Easywell E5MX: Compact 4" submersible, ideal for domestic water supply, flow up to 7.2 m³/h
-
Desert Energy: High-efficiency 6" pump for agricultural irrigation, flow up to 45 m³/h
-
Endurance: Heavy-duty 8" pump for large-scale water projects, flow up to 180 m³/h
-
MAC Series: Multi-stage pumps for high-lift applications, head up to 600 meters
Waste Water Pumps
For sewage, drainage, and wastewater applications. Caprari offers the K+, K-Kompact, D, M E MAT, KT+, MixoFlush, Stormwater, CMB, and D-WASTE series.
-
K+ Series: Submersible vortex impeller pumps for solids handling (DN 65 to DN 350)
-
D Series: Drainage pumps for clear and slightly dirty water
-
MixoFlush: Mixing and flushing system for wastewater treatment plants
-
Stormwater: Large-capacity pumps for stormwater management
Surface Pumps
For above-ground installations. Caprari offers PM-PMA, PMXT, HMU, MEC, NC, BHR, SCC, CVX, HV, and MD series.
-
PM-PMA: Centrifugal pumps for clean water, flow up to 150 m³/h
-
HMU: Horizontal multi-stage pumps for high-pressure applications
-
MEC Series: Self-priming pumps for handling dirty water and solids
-
CVX: Vertical multi-stage pumps for boiler feed and pressure boosting
Drivers and Control Systems
Caprari also provides control and monitoring solutions, including CAPDRIVE frequency converters, electric panels, VSDs, and MOTORGUARD protection systems.
How to Choose the Right Pump
Step 1: Determine Your Water Source
Is it a deep well (borehole)? A tank, river, or canal? This determines whether you need a submersible pump or a surface pump.
Step 2: Calculate Flow Rate (Q)
How much water do you need per hour? For agricultural irrigation, calculate based on crop type and area. For domestic use, calculate based on the number of fixtures and residents. Flow rate is measured in m³/h or L/min.
Step 3: Calculate Total Head (H)
Total head = vertical lift + friction losses + discharge pressure. This determines the pump's pressure rating, measured in meters.
Step 4: Consider Water Quality
Clean water, slightly dirty water, or wastewater with solids? Different pump types handle different water qualities. Wastewater requires vortex or cutting impellers.
Step 5: Choose the Right Material
Stainless steel (AISI 304 or 316) for corrosive water or aggressive environments. Cast iron for general applications. Bronze for seawater.
